    PREFACE

The Agoura Hills Municipal Code constitutes the first Code of Ordinances for the City of Agoura Hills, California, incorporated in 1982.

The text of the Code as originally adopted in 8½ by 11 page form was produced on a word processor in the office of the city attorney. Subsequent ordinances were drafted in the form of amendments to that original document and were inserted in their places by the office of the city clerk. In 1987, the city contracted with Municipal Code Corporation to edit the code and ordinances into a uniform document, index it thoroughly, and typeset it in double column format. The resulting pages were printed and bound in looseleaf binders.

The Code is arranged in articles that cover broad subject areas such as administration, public safety, business, building, and zoning. Within the articles, chapters contain specific regulations on more specialized topics such as council meetings, fire codes, and individual businesses. Related sections that are physically separated have been tied together through the extensive use of cross references in eight-point type on text pages and by a comprehensive topical index.

The ordinances that have been included in the Code are listed in the Code Comparative Table, which precedes the index. The table lists all ordinances that have at any time affected the text of the Code. If an ordinance amends a specific subsection, the table lists that subsection.

The physical format of the Code is designed to allow easy supplementation. For instance, pages have been reserved at the ends of chapters and articles to allow new legislation to be inserted. It is hoped that timely supplements will allow the city to keep its Code as up-to-date as possible.

Any publication is a joint effort. In this case, the publisher would like to extend its thanks to the offices of the city clerk/manager and the city attorney. Their diligent efforts made the publication process go smoothly and efficiently, resulting in a Code that should prove to be a useful tool in the administration of the day-to-day affairs of the city.
